Automates syncing of upsell/cross-sell product data from Xentral to Shopify, eliminating manual entry and improving recommendation accuracy.
Initially, the ERP system (Xentral) could store linked products for upsell and cross-sell, but this data couldn’t be exported to Shopify due to Shopify's lack of built-in functionality. Existing Shopify apps required manual entry and did not support automatic syncing with the ERP system, leading to inefficiencies and potential errors. The customer’s app for similar product suggestions was not accurate, affecting conversion rates. There was no efficient way to match ERP product data with Shopify’s system, causing potential delays and incorrect product recommendations.
The solution involved creating an automated data flow that exports product data from the ERP system to Channable, sends it hourly to Google Sheets, matches internal SKUs with Shopify product IDs, and uploads the file to an FTP server. Another tool processes and imports this data into Shopify, storing product references in Shopify metafields. This eliminates the need for real-time database searches, preventing slow page loads. The system ensures any changes in the ERP system are instantly reflected in Shopify, with accurate upsell and cross-sell recommendations displayed using custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
This automation project has significantly streamlined the upsell process, enhanced data accuracy, and ensured a better shopping experience. By eliminating manual data entry and improving recommendation accuracy, the client has seen increased sales potential through improved product recommendations. The solution is scalable, allowing seamless product data updates even as the product catalog expands.
